Movimiento guerrillero formado para resistir la ocupación japonesa de la península de Malaca (Malasia peninsular) durante la segunda guerra mundial. Los militares británicos, previendo una invasión japonesa, adiestraron a pequeños grupos de malayos como unidades guerrilleras, que más tarde se convirtieron en el MPAJA. Sus miembros, que eran en su mayoría comunistas chinos, emergieron como héroes de la guerra e intentaron tomarse el poder antes del regreso de los militares británicos. Sus líderes pasaron entonces a la clandestinidad hasta 1948, año en que iniciaron la insurrección llamada
